John Brown tried to free a bunch of slaves from Harpers Ferry and give them weapons to fight to agitate the country about the issue of slavery. He did this because he believed god made it his destiny. -
Election of 1860
The election Abraham Lincoln became President. He said he was going to try to end slavery gradually and he wouldn't take away peoples slaves. The south didn't believe him and threatened to leave if he won which they did over the next 6 months. -

Civil War
After Abraham Lincoln became president the southern states were scared of loosing there rights/slaves and so they separated themselves from the Union to become their own country. The North fought to bring them back and halfish way through to get rid of slavery. At the end of the war they did loose their slaves and America became whole again. -
Battle of Bull Run
The first land battle. The confederate won and the Union were so confident they had picnics and watched the battle. Helped the Union realize how serious the war was. -
Emancipation Proclamation
A document Abraham Lincoln created. It stated that every state that fought the Union would become a free states. Although the confederate didn't follow it because they saw themselves as a free country it made the war officially a war about slavery. -
Gettysburg
The Union realized the confederates plan to attack and was able to counter attack and win. It showed people that the confederate was going to win and was the tuning point of the war. -
Sherman’s March to the Sea
One of the Unions generals, Sherman, went to Georgia to scare them to leaving the confederacy. They didn't fully destroy towns but they stole things like livestock and burned down houses of people who fought back. Georgia ended up joining the Union. -
13th amendment
The 13th amendment stated there would be no slavery unless as a punishment. -
14th amendment
the 14th amendment stated that anyone who was born or naturalized in the United States would be a citizen. -
15th amendment
The 15th amendment stated that if you are a citizen in the united states, no matter the color of your skin, you can vote
