Missouri Compromise
To keep the senate equal, Missouri became a slave state and Maine became a free state. They created a line to decide the future states opinions. -
Fugitive Slave Act
This act required people to turn in and help catch Africans escaping slavery. This caused an outrage from Abolitionists. -
Compromise of 1850
It settled a dispute. It allowed California to enter and allowed New Mexico and Utah to enter and included a strict fugitive slave law. -

It was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It encapsulated the north and showed how horrible and cruel slavery truly was for people who had never witnessed it. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act split up land and created two states. One free and one not. Kansas would be free while Nebraska would not. It was passed by Congress. -
Dred Scott Case
A man had been enslaved and then freed. He sued for his freedom and got to the Supreme Court. The court disagreed with him and this caused much outrage and talk. -
John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry
John Brown decided to fight back. He murdered five proslavery settlers and freed their slaves. -
South Carolina Secedes
Because Abraham Lincoln was elected, South Carolina thought slavery was going to get taken away so they seceded. -
Election of 1860
An election in 1860 between Abraham Lincoln and William Seward. Abraham Lincoln won, causing a huge push towards the Civil War.
