U.S. House passes 13th amendment abolishing slavery
This amendment was what the south and the north were fighting over. The passing of this amendment was a key part in determining the war. The amendment boosted morale and showed true unification. It was the first of the three amendments to reconstruct the repercussions of the Civil War. -
Lee Surrenders
Lee surrenders to Grant at Appomatox Court House. Lee refuesed to see his troops suffer further. Southern troops were given generous terms of surrender.
