A battle at Shiloh church ends in a Union victory. However, the battle costs both the Union and Confederacy great losses, racking up about 24,000 casualities. -
The Second Battle of Bull Run Concludes

Abraham Lincoln died. This event resounded across the United States, both in the North and South, and marked the end of a violent epoch was nearing. -
