    The battle of Antietam fought off the confederates from advancing to Maryland. This was a significant event because it stopped the confederates from gaining important land and military supplies.

    Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation said "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free." The Proclamation was made by Abraham Lincoln on September 22nd, 1862. The first thing stated was that if the Southern states did not retreat their rebellion by January 1st, 1863, then Proclamation would go into effect. The Confederacy did not stop and, Lincoln had to issue the final Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863.

    Gettysburg Address was a speech Abraham Lincoln gave at Soldier's National Cemetery. This speech really changed the view of the Americans, it made us united in way. The Soldier's National Cemetery is a cemetery for the Union soldiers killed at the Battle Of Gettysburg's. This affected the Civil War because a lot of people died from both sides and people. This was the last time the south invaded the north.

    Lee was heading towards the Appomattox river to get food supplies thats at south side railroad. They were captured by Union Cavalry and they burnt their supply trains. Lee and Grant meet at the Appomatox court house. They signed the Army of northern virgina, where lee surrendered.
