Grant Appointed
Grant is appointed lieutenant general, a rank requested of President Lincoln. Grant assumes command of all Union Armies. -
Sherman's March to Sea
Union General William T. Sherman led about 60,000 soldiers on a 285-mile march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. The purpose was to frighten Georgia's civilian population into abandoning the Confederate cause. -
13th Amendment
This amendment abolished Slavery. -
Lincolns Assassination
John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln in the back of the head during a theater performance resulting in not being able to see if the 10% plan would have worked.
