Abe Lincoln was elected as president

Abraham Lincoln was elected to be the sixteenth president on Noverbeer 6th 1860, beating out Stephen Douglas, John Brenrenridge, and John Bell. He served from Ferbruary 9th, 1861 to April 15, 1865.

Civil War begins

The Civil War; one of Amrica's bloodiest wars. The Civil War began when general Beauregard opene fire on the union between the Noth and South. This went on for about thirty-four hours

Abraham Lincoln declares war

Apr 15, 1861

On April 15th. Abe summoned a proclamation for 75,000 troops to fight back. Senates called this "perhaps the most remarkable uprising of a great people in the hsitory of mankind." The presidents proclomation also had the troops session return for July 4th.

States start to withdrawl

Apr 17, 1861

Virgina withdrwals from the union. A few short weeks later, North Carolina, Virgina, and Tenessee folllow. Leaving the Union with an 11 state cofederacy. The population was sitting at about 9 million with 4 million being slaves.

Start of Bull Run

Jul 21, 1861

Bull Run was one of the most important battles in Virgina. Even though Brigadier General Irvin McDowell belived that his troops weren't ready, they stillown the battle.

Ulysses S. Grant captures Fort Henry

Feb 2, 1862

General Ulysses S. Grant caputues Fort Henry. Ten days later eh caputures Fort Donelson. Dueto caputuring both a few days apart, Grant earns the nickname, "Unconditional Surrender" Grant.

Abe Lincolns son dies

Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, dies of polluted water.

There was a surprise attack by the Conferates on Ulyess S. Grant's troops at Shiloh. 13,000 pople from tlhe Unionw were killed along with 10,000 Confederates.

Union takes over New Orleans

Apr 24, 1862

David Farragut sends 17 Union ships to capure New Orleans, which was already taken by the South.

Battle of Seven Pines

May 31, 1862

General Joseph Johnson attacks McClelllens troops but results in Johnson being badly injured.

Invading the North

General Lee invades the North and heads to Harper's Ferry

Antietam

Sep 17, 1862

Gen. Robert E. Lee and conferate armies are stopped in Antietam in Maryland by McClellan and the Union. That night , 26,000 pople were eithe injured , dead, or missing.

Emancipation Proclamation

Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 saying that all slave will be set free.
