  • 1st Bull Run

    Manassas Junction, Virginia. 35,000 Union troops marched from the capitol in Washington D.C. to attack a Confederate force of 20,000 along a river known as Bull Run. The confederates victory shocked the North and gave the South confidence.
  • Wilson's Creek

    Wilson's Creek
    Greene County and Christian County, Missouri. Union attacked the confederate. The union retreated but the confederate did not follow. A win for the confederate and they used it as a springboard for gaining more territory.
  • Fort Donelson

    Surrendered on February 16, 1862. Dover, Tennessee. Confederate fort. Surrendered to union.
  • Shiloh

    Lasted until August 30th in Prince William County. culmination of the Northern Virginia Campaign waged by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia against Union Maj. Gen. John Pope's Army of Virginia. Much bigger than the 1st bull run. Confederate Maj. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson captured the Union supply depot at Manassas Junction (threatening line of communication with DC). Confederate victory

    Charleston, South Carolina. Location of two civil war battles. Considered one of the toughest beachhead defenses constructed by the Confederate army.

    Lasted until May 6 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Major battle in the civil war, and the start of the Chancellorsville Campaign. General Joseph Hooker was with the Union, and General Robert E. Lee’s was for the Confederates. Lee’s greatest victory and helped to start his second invasion of the North.
