English Colony At Jamestown Virginia
This was the first permanent English settlement in North America. Settlers faced famine and disease which led to the failure of the settlment before the arrival of new settlers in 1610. -
First Africans Brought to North America
As part of the trading system, African slaves were traded in exchange for American crops such as tobacco. Most of the first slaves were imported from the Carribean (not directly from Africa) as the Carribean was part of the Atlantic Slave Trade. -
Pilgrims Land In Plymouth
William Bradford and the Mayflower Pilgrims arrived in Plymouth Massachussets. The Mayflower had 102 passengers and was the first ship to transport English Pilgrims to North America. -
Salem Witch Trials
These trials were prosecutions of people who were accused of witchcraft. The result of these trials were 20 people dead (mostly women) -
1754-1763 French and Indian War
Also known as the seven years war, the French and Indian War is a battle between the British colonists of North America and the French as the French expanded to the Ohio river. Several batlles took place which led to this war. In 1763, peace was made in which Britian recieved Canada from France and France kept their West Indian Sugar Islands. This led to westward expansion of the Mississippi Valley. -
Boston Massacre
A group of protestors, the Patriots, were advocating on the taxation the British were putting on the colonists and they had unequal representation. Soon the commmanding officer, Preston, had his soldiers line up, as a result 5 colonists were killed. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of colonists disguised themselves as Mowhawk Indians and dumped the British tea into the ocean. This event was a protest of the British Parliament's Tea Act on the colonists. -
The Declaration of Independence
This document made by the continental congress in Philidephia, granted independence of the thirteen colonies from Britian. They declared themselveds as independent soverign states. -
Revolutionary War Ends (Treaty Of Paris)
This treaty, signed by Representatives of King George and representatives of America, ended the American Revolutionary War. -
Shays Rebellion 1787-1787
An American farmer, Daniel Shay, organized an army to rebel against state and local tax collections and for the issue of debt. The result of this rebellion was revision of the Articles of Confederation or the creation of the Constitution. -
Constitution Ratified
Delegates from each state met in the constitutional convention in Philidelphia where each presented their side on views such as slavery and the bill of rights. Major plans that were presented were the New Jersey Plan which favored the small states, and the Virginia plan which pleased the larger states as it relied on population. As a result, the Conneticut Compromise took both plans and put them into one which was the favored system. -
Whiskey Rebellion
This event was a tax protest as the tax on whiskey was one of the first taxes on domestic products. Most of the people involved were the Western farmers as most of them relied on the product. The rebellion started once the militia destroyed the house of a tax collector. Washington assembled troops which soon ended the rebellion. -
1804-1806 Lewis and Clark Expeditions
Jefferson sent these two mens on an expedition west to see if there was a water route that connected the Columbia and Missouri Rivers. Both men recorded everything they saw and drew accurate pictures of the landscape which met Jeffersons

War of 1812
War between the US colonists and Britian. Causes of the war include: desire to expand, British attempt to restrict US trade, and the imprisonment of American Seamen. This war ended with the treaty of Ghent in 1815. Many Americans call this the war of second independence. -
The Missouri Compromise
Missouri was added into the Union which conflicted with the balance between free and slave states. Therefore, Missouri became a slave state, and Maine turned into a free state. Texan Independence
Revolution started because the colonist rebelled against the Mexican government. This revolution added Texas as the 28th state of the United States. -
1846-1848 Mexican American War (Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo)
The US viewed manifest destiny and wanted Mexico's territories. A battle along the Rio Grande started the battle which led to US victories. Mexico lost one third of its territory including Califlornia, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. -
Gold Rush in California

Compromise which layed out the free states and slave states in the US with the addition of the gained territory from the Mexican American war. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
This act decided on popular soverignty to decide whether the state is a slave or free state. This act led to violence called Bloody Kansas between the pro slavery and anti slavery settlers. -
Abraham Lincoln Elected President
Abraham Lincoln was the first president to win from the republican party. His viewed African Americans as equals and was against slavery which further led to his document, the Emancipation Proclamation. -
1861-1865 Civil War
The southern states created the confederate states of America and planned on seceding from the Union due to the different views on slavery from the north. This was the bloodiest war in the United states due to the high technology such as the new bullet, minie ball and railroad systems. The north won the war due to communication systems such as the telegraph and the Confederate states of America was re added to the Union. -
Transcontinental Railroad Complete

End of Reconstruction
