Bull Run/Manassas
In Prince William County, Virginia the Battle of Bull Run took place. It is considered the first major battle of the Civil War. -
Shiloh
Took place in Tennessee. The confederate army launched a surprise attack on Grant's Union army. It was a Union victory. -
Monitor and Marrimack fight
a naval battle of the American Civil War, famous for being the first fight between two ironclad warships, the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia. The naval battle lasted two days. The first day saw Virginia wreak havoc on wooden Union ships. However, on the second day Monitor arrived and initiated the famous duel of the ironclads. -
Antietam
It was the first major battle in the North. Its known as the bloodiest single day in American History, with 23,000 casualties. -
Fredericksburg
This battle was fought in Fredericksburg Virginia. Its known as the most, on sided battle in the civil war. It was a Confederate victory. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation is an executive order issued by Lincoln during the Civil War. It proclaimed the freedom of 3.1 million of the nation's 4 million slaves, and immediately freed 50,000 of them, with the rest freed as Union armies advanced. -
Chancellorsville
The Chancelorville Campain resulted in one of the largest battles in the Civil War. It took place in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Chancellorsville is known as Lee's "perfect battle" because his risky decision to divide his army in the presence of a much larger enemy force resulted in a significant Confederate victory. -
Stonewall Jackson was killed
He was a confederate general. He was involved in the valley campaign and the army of North Virginia. -
Vicksburg
was the final major military action in the Vicksburg Campaign of the American Civil War. Took place in Mississippi and was a Union victory. -
West Virginia becomes a state
In 1863, West Virginia became 35th state admitted to the Union when it broke away from Confederate Virginia during the Civil War. When Virginia seceded from the Union in 1861, the western portion was against the action. -
Gettysburg
In Gettysburg Pensylvania one of the largest bettles took place. Its known as the turning point of the war. It ends Lees invasion of the north. -
Little Round Top
Chamberlin defended this war and is well known for his success. It wasn't as bloody as some Civil War battles. -
Grant Takes Command
The Confederates surrendered, and President Lincoln promoted Grant to major general of volunteers in 1863. -
Gettysburg Address
The Gettysburg Address is a speech by Abraham Lincoln. He gave the speech during the American Civil War, It took place in the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, four and a half months after the Union armies defeated those of the Confederacy at the decisive Battle of Gettysburg. -
Shermans march to the sea
General Sherman of the Union army. After the Union soldies leave the captured city of Atlanta, they distroyed the south with "total war." -
Lincoln Gets Re Elected
Northern voters overwhelmingly endorse the leadership and policies of President Lincoln when they elect him to a second term. With his reelection, the fate of the Confederacy was sealed and any hope for a negotiated settlement vanished. -
13th Ammendment
Officially abolishes slavery. -
Surrender At Ammomattox Courthouse
Robert E. Lee surrendered to Grant at the house of Wilbur Mclean. The confederate soldiers were set free to go home and signed a document saying they cant bear arms against the U.S again. -
Lincoln Assassination
Lincon was assassanated by John Wilkes Booth while attending a show at Fords Theater. He was shot in the head and died the next day. Booth escaped but was captured shortly after the murder.
