the Battle of Fort Sumter was the bombardment and surrender of Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina. The Battle of Fort Sumter led to the Civil War. President Jame Buchanan attempted to reinforce and resupply Anderson, using unarmed light ships. This plan faild, as the ships were attacked apon the shore. -
Battle of Bull Run (1st)
The first major battle of the Civil War, in Virginia was the Battle of Bull Run. To the Civil War standards, the armies weren't very large. The Federal Forces were divided into four forces of about 30,000 men. Each commander planned on attacking each others right flank, and both were successful in their part. Eventually, the leader least successful on this action won the battle. Confederate Victory. -

Battle of Shiloh
Resulting of the fall of Fort Henry and Donelson, General Johnston was forced to fall back, giving up Kentuckey and most of western and middle Tennessee. The Confederate retrenchment was a surprise to the Union Army. Grant received orders to await Buell’s Army of the Ohio at Pittsburg Landing, but he did not do as he was told. -
Battle of Bull Run (2nd)
General Thomas J, Jackson captured a Union supply depot at Manassas Junction, threatening Pope's communication with Washington D.C. Jackson took defencive postions at Stony Ridge. On August 28, 1862, Jackson launched his attack on the union army just east of Gainesville. Confederate Victory. -
Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was considered a military draw between the Union Army, and the Confederate Army. It was seen as a political victory for the union, and it led to the Emancipation Proclamation. -
Battle of Fredricksburg
The Battle of Fredricksburg was one of the largest, and deadliest battles of the Civil War. The Union Army, and the Confederate Army both fought in the streets, making thiis the first urban battle in the Civil War. Bunside's plan was to use nearly 60,000 men to crush Lee's southern flank, while the rest of his army held Longstreet. -
Emancipation Proclamation
President Linconl proposed theEmancipation Proclamation as the nation entered its 3rd year of a bloody Civil War. The Emanciation Proclamation was limitied in many ways, like, it only applied to union states that had ceceded, leaving the other states with slavery still in action. -

General Ulysses S. Grant's armies converged on Vicksburg, investing the city and trapping the Confederate Army. The culmination of one of the most brilliant military campaigns of the war, was Vicksburg surrendering after prolonged siege operations. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg Consisted of a battle between General Lee, and General Meade. The Confederat Forces covered the town from the west and north, pushing the Union defenders back up the streets. Through the nigh, reinforcments arrived for both the Union Army, and the Confederate Army. Lee attempted to envelop the Federals by first striking the Union's left flank at the Peach Orchard. -
Siege of Atlanta
Union Forces overwhelmed the confederate forces, and defeated them while defending the city under John C, Hood. Despite the name, the battled occured midway throug the campaign and the city would not fall until September 2, 1864. Once the ciity was taken, Sherman and his troops marched to Savannah in their famous March to the Sea. -
Ratification of the 13th Amendment
The Thirteenth Amendment officially abolished and continues to abolish slavery in the United States. On December 8, Senator of State William H. Seward, declared it to have been adopted. It was the first of the Reconstruction Amendments. -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
The Battle of The Appomattox Courthouse was the final engagement of General Lee, and it was one of the last battles of the Civil War. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
President Lincoln was assassinated while attenging a performance of the comedy "Our American Cousin". John Wilkes Booth shot the president just behind his left hear and the bullet stopped at his right eye. The criminal was forced against the railing by an officer, causing him to fall off the balcony. When he landed, he shattere the bones in his leg. Even though he was wounded, he left to the back door, and escaped into the night on horse-back. Nine hours after he was shot, Lincoln died.
