    It was the year 1862 when the Virginia was set to destroy the steam powered frigate the USS. Minnesota When the USS. Monitor interacted and fought the CSS Viginia. After hours of fighting the CSS Virginia shot a shell at the captains quarters which blinded the captain so the USS Monitor went away when it came back the CSS Virginia was gone and the first battle between ironclads was a stalemate. Also the 2 months later the CSS Virginia was destroyed.
