After being named, he became very popular with the men serving under his command.
Nicknamed "Young Napoleon," "Little Mac" was immensely popular with the men who served under his command. -
2nd Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas
This battle was one of the most significant confederate won battles in Civil War history.
Thomas Jackson made an attack to draw John Pope's army into battle and it endedup crushing the Union army and sending them back to Bull Run. -
Emanciption Proclamation issued.
The Emacnipation Proclamation greatly depended on military Union victory.
It was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had left the union, leaving slavery intouched in the border states. and it also left out some of the Southern states. -
Battle of Chancellorsville/Death of Stonewall Jackson
Stonewall Jackson, during this battle, was killed by his own people. Joeseph Hooker temporarily took command of Jacksons troops after he died.
Robert E. Lee was in command of the Confederate troops. this was said to be onme if his greatest victories, with a total of 97,382 Union casualties, and 57,352 Confederte Casualties. -
Battle of Gettysburg
After Lee's astounding victory in Chancellorsville, he continued to lead his army of northern Virginia to Gettysburg for his second attack on the North.
As many as 51,000 soldiers from both armies suffered casualties in this three day battle. -
Gettysburg Address
Address gave by Abraham Lincoln. Probably one of the most well-known speeches in United States history. He made it at the dedication of the Soldier's National Cemetary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
This was made Four months after the actual battle was fought. -
Sherman's march to sea
Sherman began the Georgia expedition with the intention of destroying milatary forces in the state.
He started withg 100,000 soldiers, and lost about 25,000 men. -
Lee surrenders to Grant
Lee surrenderered to Grant at the Appotamox Courthouse.
Lee's men tried to escape Richmond, but found themselves surrounded, hungry and tired, but Grant's men. -
Licoln's Assassination
Assassintaed by john Wilks Booth, while he was watching the play My american Cousin. Booth was a well known actor, so he knew exactly what part of the play to shoot. He planned it at the funniest line of the play when everybody would be laughing and not hear it. Lincoln was shot and taken to a warehouse across the street where he died.
