The Union Naval Blockade was the Union attempting to block the southern states. Their goal was to keep any weapons, goods, or troops from entering the southern states. The Union thought that the result of them doing this was the southern states economy crash and the north would have an advantage in the war. -

The Trent Affair was when the United States navy captured two confederate representatives from a British mail ship named the Trent. This caused Britain to get angry and accuse them of violating their neutrality with them. This caused the United States and Britain to be in a crisis during the Civil War. -

The Battle of Fort Sumter took place in Fort Sumter and was ran by the South Carolina military due to the Confederate Army not existing yet. This battle lasted about 34 hours. During this battle, there was a lot of violence but Anderson and 86 soldiers surrendered. -

First Battle of Bull Run was when over 35,00 troops marched from D.C. to a small river, Bull Run. This battle was located in Prince William County, Virginia. The outcome of this battle was the south winning against the north. This battle was the first major battle of the Civil War. -

The Battle of Shiloh was when the Confederate Army did a surprise attack on the Union in Tennessee .The outcome of this battle was the Union winning and over 23,000 casualties. -
Battle of Antietam
Battle of Antietam was when The Confederates invaded Maryland which caused a threat to D.C. This battle lasted about 12 hours and soon the Union won. The Union winning Gave Abraham Lincoln the change to announce the Emancipation Proclamation. -
Issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation
Issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation was a document that states that slaves that escaped or was transferred to free states were now free. This was issued by President Abraham Lincoln. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
Battle of Fredericksburg was when the Confederates planned attacks on the Union multiple times. After four days, the Confederates ended the battles with them winning. It was a huge success for the Confederates due to it being the beginning of winter. -
Vicksburg Campaign
The Vicksburg Campaign was when the Union launched an attack on Vicksburg, Mississippi. This was an important Confederate city. This attack lasted 47 days and the Union won. The Union gained control over the Mississippi River. This helped the building of the Anaconda Plan and stop trade between the South and Europe. -

The Battle of Chancellorsville was located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. After one week, one of the generals from the Confederate army was badly wounded. The Confederates still won. This Battle was very important. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was when Robert E. Lee led his troops into Pennsylvania to meet George G. Lee and his troops were better prepared but he had lost a good amount of his army. This caused them to retreat and give the Union the victory. -
Gettysburg Address
Gettysburg Address was presented by Abraham Lincoln in the place where the Battles of Gettysburg happened. Lincoln explained that we must have quality among all men in the country. This was on of his most important speeches. -
Overland Campaign
The Overland Campaign was a plan created by Commander Ulysses S. Grant and was to capture the Confederate Capital, Richland. This battles lasted for nine months and over 10,000 Unions soldiers. This battle was unsuccessful. -
Sherman’s March to the Sea
Sherman’s March to the Sea was when General William T. Sherman marched with the Union through Georgia to Savannah. The main purpose of this was to scare people into supporting the Union. They never intended ti be violent but then soon burned down confederate houses and stole livestock. -

The Appomattox Campaign was when Grant used his army to attack Lee and this forced him and his troops westward. Lee and his army was not prepared and surrendered to the Union. This was the fina; campaign of the Civil War -

Lee’s Surrender at Appomattox was when Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant after losing the flee to the west. Lee tried to return to the south several times but failed.
