Lincoln's Inauguration
Lincoln's Inauguration occured on March 4th. Lincoln said he does not have any plans of ending slavery in which states it exists in. He hoped to resolve the conflict without warfare. He emphasized his support for staying together; would not tolerate seccesion. -

First Battle of Bull Run
This was the first major land battle of the Civil War, took place near Manassas, Virginia. The Union army was led by General McDowell, Confederate army was led by General Beauregard. Union army panicked and fled, resulting in a Confederate army. -

THis battle tok place in Sabine pass, Texas. The battle of Sabine pas fought on September 25, 1861. The Union won this battle. -
Moniter Vs. Merrimack
Moniter and Meerimac were the names of two American ironclad warships that fought the first naval battle of the Civil War. Union ship was Monitor, Confederate ship was Meerimack. The battle ended in a stalemate, as Moniter did not press its advantage in favor of a tactical retreat. This eventually led to the US navy. -
The Battle of Hampton Roads
The Battle of Hampton Roads took place on March 9, 1862 near Richmond, Virginia. This battle was between Monitor and Merrimack. The battle was the first abttle between Ironclad warships during the war. This battle itself was irrelevant, but started a new era of naval warfare. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
The second battle of Bull Run occurred in August 28-30, 1862, in Manassas, Virginia. This was a victory for the Confederate forces again. There were 22,180 casualties and of those, 13,830 were Union soldiers. The battle was a very important victory for the South. It was the most decisive battle in the Northern Virginia campaign for the Confederates. -
Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was fought on September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg Maryland and Antietam Creek. This was the first major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Union soil. McClellan was able to check the Confederate advance into the North even though failed to utilize his numerical superiority to crush Lee’s army. Battle of Fredricksburg
This battle was fought in Northern Virginia, between Confederate general Robert Lee, and Union general Ambrose Burnside. This was one of the most one-sided battles fought in the war, as Union casualties numbered almost twice as much as Confederate casualties, as a result of tactical mistakes made by Burnside. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This was issued by Lincoln and was an executive order that would order the emancipation of all slaves in any state that did not end their rebellion against the Union by January 1st, 1863. It also showed that ending slavery was now the principal effort of the Union in the Civil War. -

The Ratification of the 13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment was pass on January 31, 1865.This Amendment was the amendment that freed all the slaves. Earlier in the war (during Lincolns first term as president) this amendment was voted on for passage, but was shot down by the democrats that were for states' rights. Over all this amendment was very important of passage because it freed the slaves, but also showed the south rebellion would not be tolerated. -

Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
On April 15, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Fords Theatre in Washington D.C. This attack came only five days after the end of the Civil War. Booth created a plan to assassinate Lincoln, Johnson (VP), and Seward (S of S) to throw the government into utter chaos. When it came down to the final moment the coconspirators assigned to kill Johnson and Seward failed to complete the task. Johnson soon took over Lincolns position as president. -
Slavery is Abolished
As the Union's principal objective in the war was to abolish savery, the first official act after the war ended was officially abolishing slavery. This ushered into a new era of American prosperity.
