  • Lincoln Elected

    Lincoln was a member of the new anti-slavery republican party.
    He managed to get elected without even being on the ballot in ten of the southern states.
  • Fort Sumter

    He was almost out of food and ammunition wad his forces were badly outnumbered.
    April 12,1861 General Beauregard sent major Anderson a message saying that he would fire in one hour if Anderson didn't surrender .
  • Battle of Bull Run

    The two inexperienced armies ran into many difficulties.
    July 21,1861 General McDowell ordered the union army to attack.
  • Battle of Antietam

    General Joseph Hooker, attacked the confederate army on the left flank.
    The fighting was fierce and the day would be one of the bloodiest in American history.
  • Emancipation Proclamation signed

    Only about 50,000 of the 4 million slaves were immediately set free.
    The slaves in these states were not immediately freed.
