Why events took place that made the civil war inevitable?
-
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise started it all, creating major separation of the country. One side having legal slavery and one side not. -
The Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 accepted California as a free state and was supposed to create balance but really just seperated the country more. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It portrayed what slavery was really like which made Northern States very angry creating more division and tension in the country. -
Bleeding Kansas
Bleeding Kansas came after the Kansas-Nebraska act. It was a pre-Civil War Civil war. North and South fought about the right to have slavery and why it was wrong or not. 200 people were killed in the violent settling of the topic. It was pretty much a mini war which would obviously make the Civil War a little more inevitable. -
Dred Scott Decision
The Dred Scott Decision was a turning point to making the Civil War inevitable because it was wrong on so many levels. It mad the North and abolitionist furious. This decision was a Supreme Court ruling say that even though Scott was a free man and lived on free soil he could not sue because he didn't have the rights. Even though Dred was a freed slave. -
John Browns Raid
John Browns raid on Harpers Ferry was an abolitionist movement. He tried to take his 21 men and 10 of his men were killed. He was not doing the right thing but he did have the right idea in mind.It made the war inevitable because the South hated people like John Brown it angered them more, John Brown was hung for treason after his failed attempt. -
Lincolns Election of 1860
Lincolns election was in my opinion the biggest trigger. It was inevitable that one of the Southern states would have succeeded with all of the other events, but just 1 month after the election, South Carolina seceded from the Union. -
South Carolina secedes from the Union
South Carolina secedes from the Union as a result of Lincolns election. It is pretty much self explanatory why this would make the Civil War inevitable but it seriously create the most division. It was most literally no longer apart of our United States. States were no longer United.
