    First Battle of Bull Run
    The First Battle of Bull Run was a total failure for the north, northerner General McDowell went into battle thinking since his troop won a couple smaller battles they was ready. He was sadly mistaken, when they encountered the south, they fell for a fake and was flanked by the south taking away their numbers advantage. When the fighting started both generals realized that neither side was ready for fighting, their soldiers were inexperienced. The north realized they needed to train more.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    The Battle of Shiloh was a desperate attempt by the south to weaken the north's army that actually worked. With their backs against the wall south General Albert Sydney Johnson, led an ambush on northern troops at Shiloh. This ambush was known as one of the bloodist battles in the war, with this ambush the south was able to loosen the north's grip on their western territory.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam
    The Battle of Antietam was very important to the war, after this "victory" President Lincoln introduced his Emancipation Proclamation, this document allowed the north to confiscate slaves as "contraband". At first, General Lee planned on invading and taking the railroad going into D.C; however, one of MCclellan's soldiers found General Lee's plans wrapped around some cigars dropped from south carriers. When he found these plans MCclellan took Lee's trooped on and outnumbered them.

    The Battle of Fredericksburg
    The Battle of Fredericksburg was very important in the Union army, Lincoln fired MCclellan and hired Burnside. Lincoln felt MCclellan was to passive, but he soon realized that Burnside was to aggressive and got many troops killed. At first, Burnside had gotten the southern generals to bite on a fake, but he decided to water on his pontoon bridges and with him waiting this gave the southern troops enough time to regroup and gather there defenses. This assured the north's defeat.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Battle of Vicksburg
    In the Battle of Vicksburg, General Ulysses S. Grant wanted to take Mississippi away from Confederate control. Grant didn't want to charge straight in the fort defending Vicksburg, but it was his only option. General Grant led the Union troops into Vicksburg and fought the south head on, the southerns sent a small troop to ambush the Union this attempt was feble, the Union army beat the Confederates and took over Mississippi.
