    Robert E. Lee goes north to invade Maryland. North and South meet at Antietam creek. Right before they battle, McClellan gets a delivery of cigars and a copy of general Lee’s battle plans. McClellan thought it was a trick but then decided to trust it and use his plans. The battle was so bloody because they knew what Lee was going to do. 26,000 killed in a day, Lee loses and retreated with only 5,000 men left
  • Vicksburg

    Vicksburg
    the major hub for supplying the confederate army. Grant took over Vicksburg and starved the civilians until the surrender. Split the confederacy down the middle and they have no ability to supply their armies. Big victory for Grant and the Union.
  • Gettysburg

    Robert E. Lee marched his Army of Northern Virginia into Pennsylvania in late June 1863. On July 1, the advancing Confederates clashed with the Union's Army of the Potomac, commanded by General George G. Meade, at the crossroads town of Gettysburg. Bloodiest battle in history
  • Pickett’s Charge

    Pickett’s Charge
    Lee thought that the Union soldiers were knocked out, but they came back with cannons and killed 10-15,000 soldiers
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    Sherman’s March to the Sea
    Grant and Sherman’s chance to end the war. They want to make the South regret ever leaving the Union. Grant orders Sherman to order total war and wage a total war on the South. Sherman burns everything and kills all the animals. Sherman said war is cruelty and the crueler it is, the sooner it will be over. He added that he would make this war as severe as possible and show no symptoms of tiring until the South begs for mercy.
  • Appomattox

    Appomattox
    Lee went here and got cornered by Grant. Lee knows that the end is near for him. Grant felt sorry for Lee and gave him generous terms. He just wanted them to go home and continue living. April 7, 1865 the war ends. South was economically and socially destroyed.
