    Battle of Shiloh (April 6-7th, 1862)
    After being stunned by the First Battle of Bull Run, the Union Forces would retaliate and engage Conferate Forces at Shiloh, Tennessee. Lasting two days long, with the death of more than ten thousand man, this would be one of the bloodiest battle in American history. The Union's General Ulysses S. Grant would be victorious. This would promote that Lincoln was willing to shed blood to maintain the Union

    Battle Of Antietam
    Tired from awaiting an attack by the Union troops , The Confedracy,General Robert E. Lee, would attempt to attack the Union forces in the border states. In hopes of making Maryland secede. Lee would face against the Union General George McClellan's troops , resulting in more than 23,000 deaths but a victory for the Union Forces.

    Results of Battle of Antietam

    McClellan could've been able to end the war if he pursued Lee into Virginia but refused. Resulting in his replacement by Ulysses S. Grant, who was about that life. He had the mindset to end the war if given the chance too. Lincoln would capitalize the victory to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. Which freed slaves in the rebellion states and also allow blacks to participate in the war on the Union side. Boosting the numbers of the Union forces and giving them a strategic advantage

    While Lee was facing lost after lost in the North, Grant's troops would seize Vicksburg, Mississippi. The trapped Confederates would inevitably surrender. This victory gave the Union control of the Mississippi River and split the Confederacy in half.

    History does repeats itself , as Lee would then again attempt to invade into Union territory. This time in Pennsylvania. Lee hoped to gain recognition from Britain and France in order to strengthen the cause of northern “Copperheads” who favored peace.At the end of the struggle more than 50,000 died, Lee was once again forced to retreat. The battle was a victory for the North and a catastrophe for the South. Lincoln would then give his Gettysburg Address.

    The Union forces would break through the Confederate defense, forcing them to retreat and burn down their capital to render it unless to the Union forces. Being heavily unnumbered and outgunned, General Lee would surrender. Grant would accept the surrender and capture Jefferson Davis. Ending the Civil War
