Union General Grant carefully planned a scheme to raid his fortress.Critically Grant created several raids in different places to distract Confederate Commander John Pemberton. Once Pemberton knew what Grant was doing he tried to cripple his plan and failed miserably. Days after the attempt Grant attacked Pemberton and Pemberton's army was unable to provide the necessary supplies needed and caused his army to die. Then The North controlled Mississippi. -

General Lee wasn't strategic enough to defeat the North. After their failed attempt, Lee decided to charge the North. He received a chance to sabotage the North, by getting information; however he didn't receive any information. Therefore, Lee failed again to know the attack points of the North.
