The Confederacy completely depended on these rivers because the rivers were used to transport supplies and slaves throughout the confederacy. General Grant gained control of crucial forts on these rivers; which increased the Union's grip on the Western theater and its vital waterways.

    Confederate General Robert Lee marched into Maryland, Virginia and isolates the city. This tactic was afforded to enable Lincoln to retreat his mission to re-unite the nation. To have a more effective blockade Lee divides his army into specific groups of soldiers throughout the city. Suddenly, Lee's plan falls apart. The results of the war and the election of President Lincoln changed how the was fought completely .

    Union General Grant carefully planned a scheme to raid his fortress.Critically Grant created several raids in different places to distract Confederate Commander John Pemberton. Once Pemberton knew what Grant was doing he tried to cripple his plan and failed miserably. Days after the attempt Grant attacked Pemberton and Pemberton's army was unable to provide the necessary supplies needed and caused his army to die. Then The North controlled Mississippi.

    General Lee wasn't strategic enough to defeat the North. After their failed attempt, Lee decided to charge the North. He received a chance to sabotage the North, by getting information; however he didn't receive any information. Therefore, Lee failed again to know the attack points of the North.
