The Union was commanded by Robert Anderson, and the Confederates were commanded by Beauregard. The result was a Confederate victory, stunning the North as they thought the war was going to be easy. -
Battle of Bull Run (1st)
The fist battle of bull run took place at Fairfax County and Prince William County, Virginia. The Union forces were lead by Irvin McDowell ans the Confederate forces by Johnston.It was a Confederate victory. The result was Lincoln being convinced that it would be a long and costly war, and McDowell being replaced with McClellan. -
Battle of Hampton Roads
This battle went from March 8 to March 9 1862. It took place at Hampton Roads, Virgina. The Union was commanded by John Worden and the Confederatcy was commanded by Franklin Buchanan. The result was a tie. It was the first battle with iron clads. -
Battle of Shiloh
This battle lasted from April 6 to April 7, 1862. It took place at Hardin County, Tennessee. The Union was commanded by Ulysses Grant and the Confederates were commanded by Albert Johnson and Beauegard. The result was a Union victory. it was one of the bloodiest battles and helped the union get closer to its goal of getting the Mississippi River which would cut the Conferderacy in half. -
Battle of Bull Run (2nd)
This battle lasted from August 28 to August 30, 1862. It took place in Prince William County, Virginia. The Union was commanded by John Pope, and the Confederacy was commanded by Robert E. Lee. The result was a Confederate victory. This battle convinced Lincoln to turn the war against slavery. -
Battle of Antietam
The battle of Antietam lasted from september 16-18. The Battle was in Sharpsburg, Maryland. George Mcclellan lead the Union forces, and Robert E. Lee lead the Confederate forces. This Battle gave Lincoln the win for him before he delivered the Emacipation Proclamation. -
Battle of Fredricksburg
The battle took place in Fredricksburg, Virgina. It lasted from December 11 to December 15, 1862. The Union forces were commanded by Burnside, the Confederates by Robert Lee. It was a confederate victory, Lincoln removed Burnside from his command. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Freeded all Slaves. It freed 50,000 slaves immediately, and more were freed as the Union army pressed on and could enforce it. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
This battle took place in Spotsylvania, Virgina. It lasted from April 30 to May 6, 1863. The Union troop were commanded by Hooker, and the Confederate troop weere commanded by Robert E. Lee. The battle was a Confederate victory, and is considered Lee's greatest victory. -

This battle lasted from May 18 to July 4, 1863. It took place at Warren County, Mississippi. The union was commanded by Ulysses Grant and the Confedertes by John Pemberton. The result was a Union victory. With this victory, the Confederacy was split in half. -
Battle of Gettysburg
this battle lasted from July 1 to July 3, 1863. This battle took place in Adams County, Pennsylvania. The Union was commanded by George Meade and the Conferates by Robert E. Lee. The result was a Union victory. This battle had the most soldiers lost in any battle and was the turning point in the war. -
Siege of Atlanta
This battle lasted from July 22 to August 31, 1864. The battle took place in Fulton County, Geogia. The Union was commanded by William T. Sharman, the Confederacy by John Bell Hood. The result was Union victory. This battle helped Lincoln win reelection. -
Ratification of the 13th Amendment
This amendment was made to officially abolish slavery, and prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude. It was made a officialy amendment on December 18, 1865. It was the beginning of the reconstruction amendments. -
Surrender at Appomattox Court House
On April 9, 1865, Lee signed papers surrendering to the Union. They were signed at Appomattox Court Hous, Virginia. This was the last of the war, ending in Union victory. -
