Battle of Shiloh
The Battle of Shiloh was fought in the state of Tennessee. Leading the Union was General Ulysses S. Grant, and leading the Confederacy was General Robert E. Lee. This battle lasted from April 6th to April 7th of 1862. The Union had suceeded in capturing the Tennessee River. This meant that the battle was won by the Union. -
Battle of Bull Run (2nd)
The 2nd Battle of Bull Run was fought in the state of Virginia. Leading the Union was Pope and leading the Confederates was Jackson. This battle lasted from August 29th to August 30th. The Union's plan was to capture the Confederate's capitol. This was not accomplished by the Union and the Confederates won the battle. -
Battle of Antietam
The battle of Antietam was fought in Maryland. Leading the Union was McClellan and leading the Confederates was General Robert E. Lee. This battle was concidered a Military draw at first, but in the end the Union took the victory. This battle lead to the formation of the Emancipation Proclamation. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
The battle of Fredricksburg was fought in the state of Virginia. Leading the Union was Ambrose Burnside, and leading the Confederates was General Robert E. Lee. The Confederates won this battle and stops the final Union advance of 1862. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was written Abraham Lincoln on January 1st of 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation abolished slavery, but most people didn't follow this law. The Emancipation Proclamation did not work at first, but later after the Civil War it became a permanent law. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
The battle of Chancellorsville was fought in the state or Virginia. Leading the Union was Hooker, and leadinf the Confederates was General Robert E. Lee. This battle lasted from May 2nd through May 4th of 1863. This battle was a vitorious win for the Confederates considering they were outnumbered 2:1. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought in the state of Pennsylvania. Leadintg the Union was George Meade, and leading the Confederates was General Robert E. Lee. This battle lasted from July 1st to July 3rd of 1863. In this battle it was a victory for the Union. this was the last time that the Confederates ever invaded the Union in the Civil War. -
The Siege of Vicksburg
The Siege of Vicksburg was fought in the state of Mississippi and lasted from May 18th to July 4th of 1863. Leading the Union was Ulysses S. Grant, and leading the Confederate's was Robert E. Lee. In this battle, the Union gained control of the Mississippi River. This was a victory for the Union. -
The Siege of Atlanta
The Siege of Atlanta was fought inthe state of Georgia and lasted from July 16th to September 2nd of 1864. Leading the Union was Sherman and leadin the Confederacy was Hood. During this battle the Union captured the heart of the south. This meant a victory for the Union. -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
The battle at Appomatox Courthouse was the final battle of the Civil War. The Union won and that was the end of the Civil War. The 13th amendment was ratified and slavery was abolished. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
While Abraham Lincol was in a theatre, he was shot by John Wilkes Booth. He became paralyzed and could barely breath. After rushing him to the hospital, the doctors realized they could do nothing about it. At 7:22 AM on April 15, Lincoln died. -
Ratificaton of the 13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment was ratified on December 6th of 1865. The 13th amendment ratified: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
