Fort Sumter
At 4;30 April 12 1861 on an island in the Harbor of Charleston, South Carolina the beggining of the civil war started with Robert Anderson (leader of the confederacy) comand for his army to fire at the fort. Luckily no one was killed.This wasn't a real battle, at the beggining the north did not want to fight but this declared the beggining of war. -
First Battle of Bull Run
This Battle took place in Virginia, like most battles of the civil war. The union general was General Irvin McDowell and the confederate general was Pierre Beauregard. For this battle the north was hardly prepared and its army was not the best, but the south attacked them showing the north that they had underestimated their oppponents and Lincoln ordered for a beter army. This was the begining of the war. As it might have been expected this battle was a confederate victory. -
Battle of Hampton Roads
This battle took place in Hampton Roads which is right of the coast of Virginia. This war was fought at sea and ended the next day on march 9 1862. The winner of this battle is inconclusive both the north and the south claimed they had won.Captain John Lorimer Worden, Lieutenant Dana Greene

Battle of Shiloh
This battle took place in Tenessee on april 6th 1862. Ulysses S Grant was the leader of the Union and the general of the south was Albert S Johnston. Johnston was a great confederate genral sadly at the end of this war he died but his army did not win the Union took the victory and they gained control of the Tenessee river. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
This battle was fought in Virginia with general Pope leading the union and general Jackson as the Confederate leader.This battle ended on april the 30th of the same year, with a confederate victory. Lee ended the Union threat in Virginia.This battle also helped the south to regain control of most Virginia. -
Battle of Antietam
The battle of Antietam took place in Maryland on September 17 1862. The Union general was McClellan and Robert E. Lee was the confederate general. This battle was a military draw, meaning neather sides won anything but it was thought of as a political victory for the union as it led to the Emancipation Proclamation. This battle was also the blodiest battle of the civil war. -
Battle of Fredricksburg
This battle took place in Virginia on december 13 1862. The leader of the nothern army was Ambrose Burnside and Lee was leading the south. This battle was a confederate victory. This victory stoped the final Union advace of1862. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This proclamation was issued three years in the civil war by president Abraham Lincoln. The Emancipation Proclamation said to free all the slaves held by the south, but it did not frre slaves in the boarder states. This was not very succesful as not all slaves could be freed but it inspired the soldiers fighting this war that this was a war for frredom.Thanks to this proclamation now black mens were accepted to fight in the Union trrops. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
Virginia was where this battle took place and where it ended on May the 4th 1863. With Joseph Hooker leading the north and Lee in the south this was a fierce battle.It finally ended two days later with another confederate victory. Unfortunatly for the south this battle cost the death of one of their good generals: Jackson. -
Siege of Vicksburg
With general Ulysses S. Grant leading the north and Pemberton leading the south this battle lasted 2 month, till July 4 1863. At the end it was a Union win. Because they won the union got control of the Mississippi river and the south was finally split in two. This was a good thing for the north. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle took place in Pennsylvania. With general George Meade leading the north and Lee leading the confederate forces this battle was two days long ending on July 3 1863, with a Union victory. After this battle Lee's hope for a confederate victory in the north was crushed, and the confederates would never invade the north again. -
Siege of Atlanta
This battle took place in Georgia on the 16 of July 1864 it lasted till Sptember 2 of the same year.General William Tecumseh was the leader of the nothern army and Sherman hood took the lead in the south.This battle lasted several month but in the end it was a union victory. During this battle the presidential elections were taking place and many people were not going to reelect Lincoln because they wanted the war to end but with a Union win Lincoln got reelected. -
Ratification of the 13 Amendment
The Ratification of the 13 Amendment was proposed on January 31st 1865. It was proposed because Lincoln urged congress to try to end slavery as his first attempt did not succed. By the end of the year 27 states includind 8 in the south had ratified the amendment. Slavery was officialy banned. -
Surrender at Appomattox Cout House
Lee wanted to keep on fighting but he knew he couldn't, not without loosing the rest of his army anyway. So it was time to surrender for the south. This surrender took place at Appomatox Court House in a small Virginian town with Lee surendering to Grant. The north had won. -
Assasination of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was watching a play at Fords theater in Washington D.C. John Wilkes Booth, a Confederater supporter, snuck up behind Lincoln and shot him in the back of his head. Booth then jumped of the balcony even though he broke his leg he was still able to escape. Unfortunatly for him Union troops found Booth several days later and killed him. A day later on April 15 Lincoln died, he was the first president to be assasinated. Many people were very sad because of his death.
