Emancipation Proclamation
nps.govPresident Lincoln proposed this document in the year 1863. He had just been voted into office and was dealing with the event slavery. It was a big issue during this time and Lincoln thought this would be a good idea. There were other issues along with this particular one. -

Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
