President Abraham Lincoln passed a law that freed slaves everywhere but could not be enforced due to in troop placment. After this was passed African-American troop enlistment increased greatly. Also after the Emancipation Proclamation was passed all slaves fled to Union territory where they could be protected under this law. -

The 13th Amendment said that slavery or forced service was not allowed unless a punishment for a crime is needed. Mainly the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States of America. It was also the base of the Emancipation Proclamation that was later passed by President Lincoln. This amendment changed the United States forever.
