  • Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter
    It was in South Carolina. The Confederate commander was Beauregard, and the Union commander was Anderson. The Confederates forced the Union to surrender at their fort, because they could not react in time.
  • Battle of Bull Run (1st)

    Battle of Bull Run (1st)
    This battle was in Virginia. The Confederates won and now their army had recognition. Irvin McDowell was the Union commander, and Pierre Beauregard was the Confederate commander.
  • Battle of Hampton Roads

    Battle of Hampton Roads
    This battle was two days long, it ended on the 9th. It was in Virginia. Neither sides won, both sides claimed victory.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    This battle ended on the 7th. It was in the state of Tennessee. The Union commander was Grant, and the Confederate commander was Johnston. It was a Union victory, Johnston was killed, and the Union army got control of the Tennessee River.
  • Battle of Bull Run (2nd)

    This battle ended on the 30th, it was in Virginia. The Union commander was Pope and the Confederate commander was Jackson. The Confederates won, and regained their control of Virginia.
  • Battle of Antietam

    The battle took place in Maryland. Nobody won during this battle. It was more of a victory for the Union though. McClellan was the Union commander, and Lee was the Confederate commander.
  • Battle of Fredricksburg

    This battle was in Virginia. The Union commander was Ambrose Burnside, and the Confederate commander was Robert E. Lee. It was a Confederate victory. It stopped the final Union advance of 1862.

    President Lincoln wrote the document. He created it to try to free all blacks from slavery. Abolition was a certain goal during the Civil War for the Union, but the Confederates wanted to either keep slavery or let it expand.

    This battle ended on the 4th. It was in Virginia. The Union commander was Joseph Hooker, and the Confederate was Lee.It was a Confederate victory, even though Lee was outnumbered 2:1, but Jackson was killed.
  • Siege of Vicksburg

    It ended July 4th. It was in Mississippi. The Union commander was Grant, and the Confederate was Pemberton. It was a Union victory, and they got control of the Mississippi River. Now their goal in the west was accomplished.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The battle was in Pennsylvania. The Union commander was George Meade, and the Confederate commander was Lee. It was a Union victory, there was over 43,000 casulties, the Confederates would never invade the Union again.
  • Ratification of the 13th Amendment

    The amendment officially abolished slavery in the United States. The U.S. thoguht that publishing it would lead to rebellion in some southern states.
  • Siege of Atlanta

    This ended on September 2nd. It was in Georgia. The Union commander was Sherman, and the Confederate commander was Hood. It was a Union victory. They captured the "Heart of the South", and launched the "march to the Sea".
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    Robert E Lee realized he and the confederates could no longer move foward in the Civil War against the Union. So the two armies agreed to the surrendering of the Confederacy, and signed the surrender.
  • Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

    Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    John Wilkes Booth assassinated Lincoln during a play in Ford's theatre in the president box. Booth was mad that Lincoln granted voting rights to some blacks. Booth then started his plan to kill Lincoln because he was a Southern racist, and hated blacks.
