    The battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War overall, with the Union eventually defeating the South. The South's leader, Robert E. Lee, was forced to retreat back to Virginia, which ended all hope of the South winning. Georgia Encyclopedia

    The 98,000 Union troops defeated the 65,000 Confederate troops after many failed defense tactics. The first main battle took place in Griswoldville where the Confederates lost around 650 men. Georgia Encyclopedia

    The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment

    The 13th amendment abolished slavery, the 14th amendment declared all men and women as citizens, and the 15th amendment allowed all men to vote.
