Another thing is that the North was also trying to stop or tried to limit slavery. In the text it says “peculiar institution, more than any other single thing, separated the South from the North." -

This was talking about how the free slaves lived after the Emancipation Proclamation. Most of them did not have any education or money. In the text it says "For its part, the federal government established the Freedmen's Bureau, a temporary agency, to provide food, clothing, and medical care to refugees in the South." -

It was difficult for the freedmen to get a job because they did not really go to school often and din't know how to read or right. Another thing is that they did not have a lot of money to help them to get materials for their school. -

I think this era was very important because alot changes happened during that time. Black people were free from slavery and were allowed to have citizenship. This is the time where Abarham Lincoln was assasinated in the office. If those important things didnt happen back then we wouldnt be living the same
