Battle of Bull Run lead by General Irvin McDowell. There were about 35,000 troop on each side . Northerners believed that if they captured the Confederate capita it would have an effect of ending the Civil war. -
The Anaconda Plan
Lincoln had a plan to choke the Confederacy with a blockade and use troops to control the Mississippi River, therefore cutting the Confederancy into two. War of Attrition
This war meant that one side keeps on lossing on the enemy in order to get their enemy's strength. Southerners were ready to defend themselves, at the end, the North waged a successful war of attrition againts the South. -
Battle of Shiloh
Johnston decided to attack against Grant's army before the Union grew any bigger. Johnson's troops surprised Grant's troops, who were at Shiloh Church. Southerners had then driven Union forces back into Tennessee River. Shiloh was the bloodiest battle at that time. Battle of Antietam
McClellan finds out Lee's plan. One hof McClellan's soldiers finds Lee's order in a cigar. Confederate General learned McClellan had learned his plans. The two armies met at Antietam, this day became the bloodiest day of the Civil War.
