Confederate States Formed
Jefferson Davis decides to take actions and break off from the United States. He would be the president of the states as a graduate from West Point Academy and a former U.S. Army Officer. Confedrates states leave the U.S. for the right of having Slavery. The importance of this event would be that without the confederates leaving the United States ther would not have been a war. -
Fort Sumter Attacked
4:30 A.M. Confederates open fire. The start of the attack was lead by 50 cannons firing away. The Civil War begins. This event is important becasue this was the first fight in the war and would trigger the events to happen throught because of the first shot. -
Bull Run
The Confederates overtake the Union at the battle of Bull Run. Thomas Jackson earns the name "Stonewall" For holding off the Union off. Lincoln Tells public war will be long This was important because the Confedrates really took a push in deafinting the Union and making there push North. -
LIncoln Calls War Order
Lincoln calls all naval and land forces to advance. This is meaning soilders and Officers to do what ever it would take to win the battle. Soilders begin to really rally and move into the south. This was important because it shows how much Lincoln was willing to do whatever to defeat the south. Also more troops were called to action. -
Fort Henry Capture
Grant and The union succsefully take over Fort Henry. Grant is given the nickname "Uncoditional Surrender" For forcing the Confederates to surreneder. THis would lead to many mor captures. THis event was important because with this capture the Union could 10 days later take over Fort Donelson. -
Shiloh
Confederates suprise attack The union and Grant. 13,000 Men are killed just on the union side. Grant is relieved of his duties for having men unprepared. This is important because a good chunk of the Union soilders Lincoln had ordered had just been wiped out in a matter of hours. -
Bull Run 2
75,000 U.S. General troops are defeated by the 55,000 Confederate troops. Stonewall Jackson nce again is forced to retreat. General Pope is relieved of his duties. THis even is important because this was the second attempt for the union to try and take bull run but it failed once more. -
Anitetam
Bloodiest day in U.S. ilitary history. Confederate armies are held up in the town with no way out. By the end of the day there are 26,000 Men missing, hurt, or even dead. THis was important because the confederate was low on soilders and a big number of them would be wiped out. -
Battle Of Fredricksberg
Union men move in to attempt to take over Fredricksburg.Gen. Burnside suffers terrible defeat losing 12,653 men. 14 brutual ttempts to try to capture would fail and only killing 5,309 THis event was important because if the cofedereates would've lost this postion the war would've soon had a quick ending -
Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln isssues the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all slaves in confederate areas. This also recruit african american soilders to join up for the union. Soilders are eager to fight back. THis event is important becasue all slaves are technically free from the Confederates if they can make it north. -
Draft
THe U.S. Congress opnes the draft for the union soilders. This would affect male citizens 20-45 but exempts anybody from who pays 300$.
Many family mebers will be fighting together. THis was important becasue Union numbers were low so they call in the whole conutries males to help fight. -
Battle of Chanceslorville
Lee's much smaller Confederates holds off the much larger Union. Lee's battle tactics help with the majority of the Hold against the Union. Stonewall Jackson is shot by his own side. This event was inportant becaus the much smaller Confederates(60,00) held of the Union (117,000). -
Gettysburg
The war coming to a close Confederates needed to have a hold.Union Soilders take night tactics and attack early morning. Confederates are defeated. THis event was important becasue the tides of war turnded since the Confederates lost. -
Surrender
Lee Surrenders to Grant. Grant allows them to keep theresidearms and horses. This all happened in the Appomatox Court house in Virginia THis event was important becausethe opposing side to the Union had just surendeed -
War is Over
Final Confederate Froces surrender. The nation is once again one whole United States. 620,00 men die total in the war. This event is important because the long war is finally over.
