The Missouri compromise was an act to authorize the people of Missouri. They would form a Constitution and have an organized government. This contributed to the war because the north and south disagreed about slavery. This started the real conflict on slavery. The north and south were trying to come to an agreement. -
Texas Annexation
In 1845, The state Texas was annexed by the United States. They wanted it in the year 1836, It didn't get done until then. It was the 28th state to be added to the union. Texas was a part of Mexico but chose to leave. It was a group of Americans who settled in mexico who declared independence. -

This was a war in which the U.S won a lot of battles they fought. This resulted in the United States acquisition of more that 500,000 miles of Mexican territory. This land was expanding west to the Rio grande. This helped lead to the civil war because the people thought it was too much land for them. They thought that because the unsolved topic of slavery. -
The compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 had many parts. One part is California being admitted as a free state. It also had the borders of Texas being settled which had Texas become recognized territories In Utah and new mexico. It was 150 total laws being passed. -
Fugitive slave act
The fugitive slave act was an act in which if you saw escaped slaves you have to return them to your owner. They had to do this everywhere including free states. This lead to the civil war because the north and south disagreed on the new rule. They both wanted different things and did not want to change their opinion. -

Formation of the republican party
In the year 1854 the republican party was formed. The republican party was founded in the northern United States. It was formed by people against slavery. The point for this party was to pose as a contender for the democratic party. The party became the opposite of the Democratic party. -
The Kansas Nebraska act
The Kansas Nebraska act was a response to the Missouri compromise. This created 2 new territories. This allowed for sovereignty. It introduces a bad thing called bleeding Kansas. Pro slavery and anti slavery people came to vote. -
Abolitionist Movement (Douglass, Garrison, Truth, Grimke)
The abolitionist movement in the United States was an attempt to get rid of slavery. This was in a country that valued liberty. Plenty of Americans believe that all man are created equal. This made the regional tensions go up. This was a main cause of the civil war. -
Abraham Lincoln
During the civil war and leading up to it Abraham was the commander in chief. He was responsible for the war and how his side was conducted. He took the position of commander in chief and made it a prestigious role. In times of need, Lincoln would exercise powers that are not constitutional. He would ignore the supreme court requests to be more constitutional.
