    This compromise admitted California in the Union as a free state. It also set Texas-New Mexico border. And it also outlawed the buying and selling of slaves

    The Kansas-Nebraska act became a law. This act uses sovergnity to decide the question of slavery in Kansas and Nebraska territories. This causes the North and South to compete to settle in territory.

    Northern and Southern Democrats split over running Douglas for president. Democratic party splits allowing Lincoln's election as president
  • States Leave the Union
