Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln declared that all enslaved people in Southern rebellious states shall be now and forever free. -
Gettysburg Address
A few months following the Battle of Gettysburg, Lincoln traveled to the battle site to give this speech. In the speech he dedicated the cemetery to all the brave soldiers that were killed fighting for what they believed in. -
Andersonville Prison Camp
This prison camp was the only one during the Civil War and was very horrific. Over 50% of the men here died from either infection, typhoid, or contaminated water. Treatment was horrible as well. -
Shermans March to the Sea
Appointed by Grant of Military Division, Sherman began a march right after the Capture of Atlanta going to the sea and causing destruction of a lot of the South on his way. -
Battle of Appomatox Court House
This battle was the last of the American Civil War. At the beginning of this battle, Lee started to set the court house on fire, but was attacked by Grant. Lee then surrendered to Grant which ended the war and brought about the Union victory in the war. -
Abraham Lincoln's Assassination
5 days after the Civil War was ended, Lincoln and his wife went to a play at Fords Theatre. Here, he was shot in the back of the head and killed by John Wilkes Booth.
