  • Lincoln is elected president

    He was a Republican. He was born in Kentucky then moved to Illinois. He said that he did not want to end slavery but the southerners began to not believe him when he was in office.
  • Confederate States of America is formed

    It was a secession of South Carolina and then soon 10 more states joined them.
  • President Lincoln declares a blockade of Southern ports

    President Lincoln proclaimed the blockade on the southern ports.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    It was when the forces of the confederate states attacked the US military garrison at fort Sumter.
  • First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas)

    Federal forces attempted to flank the confederate positions. The end result of the battle was a Confederate victory and Federal forces retreated.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    It allowed Grant to begin a massive operation in the Mississippi Valley later that year.
  • Battle of Antietam

    It was a union victory and it was one of the key turning point in the civil war.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation said "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states " i did not free a single slave right away.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The union won the battle and the battle was a crushing defeat for the Confederacy. 23000 union members died in this battle.
  • Gettysburg Address

    President Abraham Lincoln wrote and delivered the Gettysburg Address. To commemorate a new national cemetery at Gettysburg during the American Civil War.
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    The Sherman's March to the Sea was to frighten Georgia's civilian population into abandoning the Confederate cause.
  • 13th amendment to Constitution

    The 13th amendment to Constitution says "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
  • Surrender at Appomattox Court House

    Trapped by the Federals near Appomattox Court House, Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Union general Ulysses S. Grant.
  • Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address

    In the address he urged people to "bind up the nation's wounds" caused by the Civil War and to move toward a lasting peace.
  • Lincoln Assassinated

    Southern sympathizers who believed that the Confederacy could be restored. John Wilkes Booth held that belief, and it was the motive behind his plot to murder President Abraham Lincoln.
