Battle of Bull Run
This was the first battle of the Civil War. It was just twenty five miles away from the capital. The confederates won this battle and Stonewall Jackson recieved his nickname here for "standing as firm as a stone wall" -

Ulysses Grant led his union army down to Tenesse and captured the confederate Fort Henry! -
Fort Donelson captured as well!
After capturing Fort Henry, Grant moved his troops 12 miles over to Fort Donelson and had a few attacks thoughout two days. Finally the confederate fort was taken over by the Union. -
General McClellan is fired
Abreham Lincoln fires General McClellan for his hesitation and inactivity in the war. He is removed from supreme command and is placed in command of the Army of Potomac. -
Battle of Shiloh
In Tennesse, the Union was waiting for the Confederaes as this turned into be a key battle in the fight for the Misissippi River Valley.Both sides lost many soldiers during the two day battle. -
New Orealans takeover
David Farragut who was in charge of the Union navy fleet, led an attack in the Mississippt River. By winning, Farragut captured the New Oreleans port! -
The Seven Days Battle
Union and Confederate forces fought a series of battles: Mechanicsville, Gaines's Mill, Savage's Station, Frayser's Farm, and Malvern Hill. On July 2, the Confederates withdrew to Richmond, ending the Peninsular Campaign. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
This battle was a significant win to the Confederate troops as they faught Union General Pope. It was the decisive Batlle in VIrginia for the COnfederates. -

Battle of Antietam
As Lee's troops were crossing into Maryland after their success in the second battle of Bull Run, they ran into General McClellans army. This was the single bloodiest day of the CIvil War and if the Union chased Lee into Virginia they could have won the war then. Instead, McClellan found Confederate plans revealing that the COnfederate army was split up! -
Emancipation Proclamation
As Lincoln would consider it a "military policy", the emancipation proclamation freed all slaves behind the Confederate lines. Also, blacks in the North could enlist in the war -
Conscription
There was not enough people recruiting for war, so the conscription act was passed that all men 20-45 were accountable to wartime. -
Battle of Chancellorsville
General Lee took a casualty costly victory over the Union. Lee split his army and suprisingly attacked the Union in three different places. -
Welcome, West Virginia!
West Virginia did not want to seceed with the other 11 states in the Confederate States of America. Therefore, they create their own terratory and became their own state of America -
Battle of Gettysburg
The batttle of Gettysburg lasted a long three days. It was the bloodiest battle in the war, suffering more than 50,000 soldiers on each side! This battle is considered the turning point in the war. After loosing many previous battles, the Union finally defeated Lee's army. After loosing, Lee tried to resign from the war however his request was denied. -
Battle of Vicksburg
The day after Gettysburg, Grant captured Vicksburg. This meant that the Union controlled the Mississippi River and the confederacy was split in two. This was a tragic defeat for the Confederates. -
Battle of Chickamauga
This battle took place on the Tenessee -Georgia border. The Union was defeated, retreated to Chatanooga and the Confederates stayed on top. -
Gettysburg Adress
President Lincoln wrote and spoke a 2 minute speech remembering and adressing the Battle of Gettysburg. It was the bloodiest battle of the war and the battleground is now a cemetary for both the Union and Confederate soldiers in rememberance of them. -
Battle of Chattanooga
When the confederates came to Chattanooga, where the Union retreated to, the Union pushed them away. General Sherman proposed his Atlanta Campaign here. -
Battle of Knoxville
This was a strategic battle for GEneral Bragg and Longstreet to get General Burnside out of Tenesse. General Burnside forcefully moved to Knoxville and defended his army from the COnfederate attacks -

Lincon appointed General Grant as head as all the Northern armies. General Sherman suceeds Grant as commander in the West. -
Shermans March to Sea
Beginning in Atlanta, Georgia General Sherman destroyed everything in his path and started toward the Atlantic Ocean. -

President Lincoln meets with Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens at Hampton Roads in Virginia to work out a peace treaty. However, the meeting ends in failure - the war will continue. -
Last TIme!
This is the last offensive fight for Lee as he attacks the Union army. It only took 4 hours for the attack to crumble. -

Fighting 50 miles outside of the capitol, Grant sent Jefferson Davis a message demanding him to leave the Capitol. Grant was beating Lees army at Pettersburg and the confederates lost their capitol -
Petersburg
Grant's forces begin a general advance and break through Lee's lines at Petersburg. Lee withdraws to Richmond -
South Surrenders
General Lee and General Grant meet at Appomattox, Virginia. They planned for the SOuth surrender, and Lincoln let them go generously. After 4 years, the Civil War ended -

Abraham Lincoln went to Fords theatre to see "My American Cousin." WHile he was there, John Wilkes Booth shot him in the back of the head. The following morning Lincoln died. The president was assassinated. -
