Battles of Fort Donelson and Henry
In a joint army/navy operation, Grant's 17,000 men assembled, and were transported by 13 transports under Andrew Foote, along with nine gun boats. Grant's men landed about three miles south of Fort Henry, while the boats chugged on to the fort. Within an hour of arrival, the ironclad had forced the fort into submission. -
Merrimack vs. Monitor
On May 11, 1862 a little before five in the morning at Craney Island the Merrimack was ordered to be blown up. To be kept from Union hands, the Merrimack was filled with 16,000 pounds of black powder in the ship’s magazine. A forty-foot section of the ship’s casemate was discovered lying over 200 yards away from the wreck. That was the end of the battle. -

Chancellorsville
The Battle of Chancellorsville was a major battle of the American Civil War, and the principal engagement of the Chancellorsville Campaign. he campaign pitted Union Army Maj. Gen. The Siege of Petersburg
Union forces beseiged Petersburg for 9 months. With General Sherman's forces approaching from the south, Lee attempted a break out. It failed miserably, and on April 2nd, Union forces soon assaulted the Confederate lines. The Army of Virginia was forced to withdraw from both Petersburg and Richmond. -
Alabama Captured

Lincoln Assassinated
The assassination of United States President Abraham Lincoln took place on April 14, 1865, as the American Civil War was drawing to a close, just five days after the surrender of the commanding general of the Army of Northern Virginia, Robert E. Lee. The assassination was planned and carried out by well-known actor John Wilkes Booth as part of a larger conspiracy intended to rally the remaining Confederate troops to continue fighting. He was the first American president to be assassinated. -
