    This battle lasted for two days from April 12, 1861 to April 14, 1861 Confederate Victory President Lincoln was determined to prepare relief expeditions to both forts but before the supplies were able to get to the forts Confenderate forces demanded Fort Sumter's immediate evacuationl. On April 14 Fort Sumter was evacuated by federal troops they marched out carrying the American flag on that day while a salute an explosion happened. This was the first battle of the civil war

    The Battle of Shiloh started on April 6, 1862 and ended the next day on April 7, 1862. The battle was the second greatest engagement of the American Civil War. On April 6, 1862 the Confederate generals launched a surprise attack on Ulysses S. Grant in southwestern Tennessee. Johnston was mortally wounded during the battle. On April 7, 1862 both sides claimed victory but it was a Confederate failure because of heavy casualties.

    The Peninsula Campaign started on May 4, 1862 and ended on July 26, 1862. Lincoln named George B. McClellan general of all Union armies. McClellan replaced previous general Winfield Scott. McClellan wanted Lincoln to approve his plan of moving his army between Johnston's army and the Confederate capital of Richmond. Lincoln approved but removed McClellan from general of the Union armies and instead put him in charge of the Army of Potomac.

    The Second Battle of Bull Run started on August 28, 1862 and ended on August 30, 1862. Lincoln made Henry Halleck general of Union armies during the Civil War instead of McClellan. Lincoln and Halleck decided to summon the Army of Potomac back to Washington and unite it with the Army of Virginia, under the command of John Pope. The outcome of the battle was a victory for the Confederates.

This victory provided Lincoln the political cover he needed to present the Emanipation Proclamation. This battle remains the bloodiest single day in American history with more than 22,000 casualties.

McCellan. Burnside turned it down.

    The Vicksburg Campaign began on May 18, 1863 and ended on July 4, 1863. The capture of Vicksburg divided the Confederacy and proved the military genius of the Union to General Ulysses S. Grant. Vicksburg is the key point of their defense. Pemberton surrendered the city on July 4. The surrender of Vicksburg marked the turning point of the war. It was a victory for the Union.

    The Battle of the Wilderness started on May 4, 1864 and ended on May 7, 1864. Lincoln put Ulysses S. Grant in charge of all Union armies in the Civil War. On May 4, 1864 Grant ordered 115,000 soldiers of the Army of Potomac, led by George Meade to march through an area of dense woodland known as the Wilderness. The smoke and fog forced soldiers to fire blind, without knowing who they were shooting at. The battle was inconclusively and this was the first battle using fire.

    The Battle of Spotsylvania began of May 8, 1864 and ended on May 21, 1864. For the next twelve days the Spotsylvania Court House saw some of the bloodiest fighting of the Civil War. On May 12, 1864 Hancock's Union attacked the Confederates at a section that became known as the "Bloody Angel." Grant shifted his army to look for weak points in the Confederate line. Lee was forced yet again to maneuver his army in between the enemy and Confederate capital.

    The Battle of Mobile Bay started on August 2, 1864 and ended on August 23, 1864. The Mobile Bay in Alabama was the most important Confederate part left in the Gulf of Mexico. Hartford fought Tennessee for two hours. When Tennessee surrendered, the Mobile Bay was in Union control. On August 23rd Fort Morgan surrendered. The outcome was a Union victory.

    Sherman's March began on November 15, 1864 and ended on December 21, 1864. General Sherman and his troops captured Atlanta because it was a railroad hub and industrial center of the Confederacy. After the Confederates lost Atlanta they headed west into Tennessee and Alabama while attacking Union supply lines. Sherman's troops arrived in Savannah on December 21, 1864. After they left they burned their way through South Carolina to Charleston. Sherman was the first person to use Total War.

The Union army began a siege of two cities on June 9, 1864. On April 9, 1865 Lee surrendered to General Joseph E. Johnston at the Appomattox Court House.

    Battle of Appomattox ended the American Civil War with Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrending to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Union forces cut off General Lee's final retreat, he was forced to surrender in result ending the four years of conflict.

    Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865. He died the next morning on April 15, 1865. Lincoln's killer was John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln's kidnapping plan was a failure because he didn't show up to where Booth was waiting for him. On July 7, 1865 Booth's men were found guilty of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated.
