Also known as the battle of Sharpsburg, this was the first major battle to take place on Union territory. It was the bloodiest single day battle in American history. 22,717 total people died that day. The Union gained a strategic victory. -

Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation to free all slaves in the united states. Although it did not end slavery, it did a part in changing the tide of the war. -

It was the final battle in the Vicksburg Campaign. It was a very decisive victory for the Union. -
Gettysburg Address
This is one of the most well-known speeaches in American history. Lincoln delivered this speech four months after the Battle of Gettysburg. It was an inspiring speech stating that the war was not in vain, but it was necessary for the equality in America, and that they will emerge stronger. -
Sherman captures Atlanta
This battle was Union victory. This battle was part of the Atlanta Campaign that was William Sherman's plan to sieze Atlanta's railways and supply center. -
Lincoln Re-elected
No votes were counted from any confederate states. Lincold won by over 400,000 popular votes. -

At the battle of Appomattox Robert surrenders after he realized the battle was hopeless. -
The Assasination of Abraham Lincoln
On good friday, after the war had ended, Lincoln was shot while watching a play. The assinator had hoped that this act would rekindle the war.
