Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States, and was the first republican president to win. -
Battle at Fort Sumter
This battle lasted till Apr. 14, 1861.(two days) This battle was the start of the war because the fort was bombarded and forced to surrender. They didn't take the fort just the millitary supplies. -
Lincoln orders blockade of the south
Lincoln ordered the blockade to stop the import of supplies, goods, and arms from and to the Confederate states. This blockade went untill 1865. -

This battles purpose was for the Confederates to break the union blockade. It was the first battle in the Civil war to fight on Ironclad ships. It ended on Mar. 9, 1862. -

General Ulysses S. Grant and his men had moved their camp down farther the Tennessee river, the confederates planned a surprise attack on them. -
Battle at Chattanooga
The confederates split up to hope that it would complicate the Union. One of the groups were told to go and fix the railroads but had a run in with the union when they covered 100 mi. -
7 Days Campaign
The confederates drove union soldiers away from Richmond. It was a series of seven attacks against the union. This lasted until June 1, 1862. -
2nd Battle of Bull Run
This battle was much larger than the first one, and the cause was an offensive campaign from the confederates. This battle lasted until Aug. 30, 1862. -
Antietam
This battle was part of the Maryland Campaing, and was the first major battle fought on free soil. It was also the bloodiest battle of the civil war. -
Emancipation Proclamation issued
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln declaring that all the slave in the confederate territories be free. -
Battle at Chancellorsville
This battle started the Chancellorsville campaing. It was started because of the Union crossing Rappahannock River to raid against General Lee's supplies line. This battle lasted until May 6, 1863. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle was fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was the turning point in the civil war because the union soldiers deafted Lee and his group causing him to stop the invasion. It lasted for three days and ended July 3, 1863. -
Siege of Vicksburg
Was the last major battle of the Vicksburg campaing. General Grant forced the confederates out of vicksburg into other lines of defense around the city. -

This was a speech given by president Abraham Lincoln, and it was one of the most famous speeches in history. This speech was signifigant because it was to adress that humans are all equall. -
Ulysses S. Grant takes over the Union Army
Ulysses S. Grant was very succesful in the civil war. He was ranked as Liutentent General, and his main goals was to take away the confederacys labor force. -
13th Amendment passed
This Amendment officially outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude, but it doesn't serve as punishment for crime. It was brought in because some people thought that the Emancipation Proclomation was temporary. -

He was assainated by John Wilkes Booth, and was the first American president to be assingnated. It took place after the confederate General Robert E. Lee to Ulysseys S. Grant. -
Sherman captures Atlanta
General William T. Sherman captured Antlanta, Georgia so the union coud take over the souths major manufacture center and the rail road hub. It was a huge gain for the Union but a rather big loss for the confederates. -
Emancipation Proclamation takes effect
It was supposed to free slaves but it didn't happen at the snap of a finger. It didn't outlaw slavery completley, and it also didn't make the slaves an official citizen. -

Some more states were considered free soil such as Kansas, West Virginia, and Nevada. The election process was also interupted because of the civil war and this caused the settlement of confederate states to lose hope. -
Sherman begins march to the sea
Also known as the Savannah campaing. Union soldiers captured the city of Antlanta, Georgia right down to Savannah port. They Destroyed industrial, infrastructure, millitary targets, and citizens property. It lasted untill Dec. 21, 1864. -
Savannah, GA falls to the Union
The union took over Savannah, GA in order to build a border to stop the confederates army's attempts to move supplies/get supplies. -
Robert E. Lee surrenders
This was his last stand with the army of Northern Virginia, and this was one of the last battles of the civil war. He planned to attack the Union but when he learned what he was up against he had no other choice but to surrender. -
Union Army moves in and occupies Richmond, VA.
The capital of the confederate states at the time was Richmond,VA. The union caused them to move office into Lynchburg for about five days.
