This was started by Abraham Lincoln. This declared all the slaves free. It was only for the states that had seceded from the Union. This did not pass.

It ended on July fourth. It happened in Mississippi. The Northern officer was Grant. THe southern officer was Pemberton. The Union won. This was a major part of the Anaconda plan.The Union had complete control of the Mississippi River. Their goal in the west was accomplished.

Gettysburg

it ended on the 3rd. This battle lasted three days and it was held in Pennsylvania. The leader of the North was Meade and the leader of the South was Lee. Th eUnion won. The south never invaded the North again after this turning point in the Civil War

Siege of Atlanta

It ended on September second 1864. The state it happened in was Georgia. The northern commander was Sherman. The southern commander was Hood. The Union captured the "Heart of the South."

Surrender at Appomattox courthouse

Robert E. Lee was the confederate leader. Lee surrendered to the Uniopn General Grant. This was the bloodiest conflict of the Civil war. This ended the War.

Assasination of Abraham Lincoln

Apr 14, 1865

Abraham LIncoln was assasinated by John Wilkes Booth. He was assasinated at Ford's Theater. LIncoln represented everyting that Booth was against. Booth was from the south and wanted revenge on LIncoln for what was happening in the South.

ratification of the 13th amendment

This officially abolished slavery in the United States. But slavery could still be issued as a punishment for crime. It was passed on January 31st but ratified on December 6th.
