African Americans were required to sit at the back of public buses and were forced to give up their seats to whites if the front of the bus filled up. Parks refused to give up her seat and was arrested because of it. The boycott happened because of this event, organized by the NAACP and other African American activists. -

the freedom riders happened on may 4th 1961. it was in washington. the methods were nonviolent protest. the leader was Dr. martin luther king jr. the results were they were able to remain nonviolent when their lives were in danger.
