  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    Plessy v. Ferguson
    In 1892, Homer Plessy, who was 30 years old. was sent to jail. He was sent for sitting in the white car at the East Louisiana Railroad. Plessy was mixed, part black and part white. He is what they call "Creole of Color". They made him sit in the colored car even though he was only one-eighth black. He went to court and argued that the Separate Car Act violated the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendmends. In 1896 the US supreme court decided that state laws could require racial segregation.

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa Pasks was an African American. She got on bus going home from work. She sat in the white section, but she was black. A white person came to her and told her she had to get up. Rosa didnt. That broke the Alabama law, but Rosa did not get up ,but she was nonviolent. This event was towards ending segregation.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    The Little Rock Nine happened on September 4, 1957. It happened in Little Rock, Arkansas. The methods used were enforcing Brown vs. Board of Education decison of integration. The leaders in this event were Ernest Green, Elizabeth Eckford, Jefferson Thomas, Dr. Terrence Roberts. The result was integration of the Central High School.

    Greensburo Sit In
    The Greensburo sit in happened on February 1, 1960. It happened in Greensburo, North Carolina. The methods that were used was useing blacks to occupied the counters intead of white people. The leaders were Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, Ezell Blair Jr. and David Richmond. The rusult was equal attention and seating in the dinner.

    Montgomery bus boycott
    The Montgomery bus boycott began after Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person. The boycott lasted from December 1, 1955 untill December 20, 1956 in Montgomery Alabama. The boycott eneded when a decision was made that segregated buses is unconstitutional.
