    President Eisenhower sent congress a proposal for civil rights legislation this established that the justice department and empowered prosecution to obtain injunctions, it also established a federal civil rights commission with the law to investigate bad conditions and recommend something different to help that situation
  • Emmett Till's Murder ( vbo )

    Emmett went to the store with his cousins and whistled at Carolyn Bryant, her husband, Roy Bryant, and brother-in-law J.W. Milam kidnapped him in the middle of the night and brutally murdered him and his body was found in a river by this guy that was fishing

    Montgomery Bus boycott (nv )

    the Montgomery bus boycott was a civil rights protest in which all African Americans refused to ride the city busses in Montgomery Alabama. a couple of days before it happened Rosa Parks an African American woman was arrested and charged for refusing to give her seat to a white male on the bus
  • Founding of the southern christian leadership conference ( nv )

    this was to assist local organizations to let African Americans have full quality in all aspects of American life. they did all sorts of stuff to help them get the freedom they need
  • little rock nine crisis ( a )

    little rock nine was a group of 9 black students that were enrolled in an all-white school, a lot of people like parents and kids their age protested against this happening and were blocking them from getting in the school so Dwight Eisenhower sent in military troops to escort them into the school.

    the Greensboro sit-in was a protest when very young African American students who were not allowed to eat at Woolworths lunch counter sat there and asked for food but they said no because it was the law that they could not serve African American people but they refused to leave and that kept asking for food and then eventually they got arrested for breaking the law

    freedom rides were a group of white and African American civil rights activists, freedom rides tried to use " white-only " restrooms, lunch counters, and bus stations in Alabama. these groups were confronted by arresting police officers as well as horrific violence from white protestors

    on September 30th, 1962 riots broke out on the campus of the university of Mississippi in oxford where local students and committed segregationists had gathered to protest the enrollment of James Meredith, a black air force veteran attempting to integrate the all-white school

    The Birmingham movement was led by the southern Christian leadership conference to bring national attention to the efforts of local black leaders this campaign was led by martin Luther king jr

    the fair housing act protects people from discrimination when they are trying to buy, rent, or secure finance for any house this was set for people with a different race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability
  • swann vs. Charlotte-mecklenburg schools ( lscc )

    after the court's decision in 1954 in brown v. board of education, there was no progress made in having schools not integrated so this case made sure that people of other races can ride busses and go to schools with white people

    shirley chisolm's presidential campaign ( p )

    chisholm was the first African American woman to campaign for the democratic party with the slogan " unbought and unbossed ". both racist and sexist she did not win her party's nomination she lost to anti-Vietnam was candidate senator George McGovern. she is a major advocate for the poor and is always looking for things to change
  • Hank Aaron's home run record ( a )

    Hank Aaron's total home runs were 755 and stood until 2007 when it was broken by barry bonds he tried to use steroids in 2011. Hank Aaron's career did not end he went on to become one of baseball's first African American executives with the Atlanta braves and he became a leading spokesperson for minority hiring he was also in the hall of fame in 1982

    Bakke took the university of California to court, the court declared imitated action because they invalidated the use of racial quotes and for being racist to African Americans
