    Brown vs The Board of Education
    This was a trial that stated that separate schools for black and white students was unconstitutional because the white schools were nicer. Oliver Brown was an African American man trying to send his daughter to an all-white school. They would not let her attend so he went to trial with The Board of Education of Topeka. This trial hugely impacted the lives of African Americans because people realized that white and black people are not given the same opportunities.

    Murder of Emmett Till
    An African American boy, age fourteen, was killed in Mississippi for whistling at a white woman.
  • Rosa Parks Arrest for Civil Disobediance

    Rosa Parks got arrested for not giving her seat up to a white male on the bus. She then was arrested.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    The Montgomery Bus Boycott was when African Americans in the state of Alabama did not ride the bus because of the segregated seating. Rosa parks hugely influenced this boycott since she got arrested four days before for refusing to give her seat to a white man.

    This act ended discrimination against race, religion, sex, and skin color.

    "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex"
  • Pregnancy Discrimination Act

    This act prohibits discrimination against female workers who plan on being or are pregnant.

    In 2013 three African American women started the Black Lives Matter Movement in response to the death of Trayvon Martin.

    This was a worldwide protest in regards to human rights.
