    Emmet Louis Till
    Emmet Louise Till was murdered for flirting with a white woman in Mississippi. Two white men assassinated Emmet in a cruel way. This is important for African Americans because they became aware of more of the mistreatment of blacks and made them fight more.
  • Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycotts

    Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycotts
    Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting in the front of a Montgomery bus and refusing to move to the back after a white folk asked her to. The Montgomery Bus boycotts were boycotts where African Americans refused to ride the buses due to discrimination. This event was important because it was a step closer to a better future for African Americans.

    The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was a meeting held by Martin Luther King as well as a group. Martin Luther King believed that they should fight for their rights in a way God would want them to meaning doing christian religious things.     Nine African American students enrolled at a all white school called Central High School in Arkansas. Eisenhower sent troops to escort those 9 students inside the school.     Originated from 4 college students at Woolworths in Greensboro, North Carolina. These students were asked to leave but they remained in their seats calm and that began the protests of Greensboro Sit-Ins.     Freedom Rides were bus trips passing through the south to protest segregation in other bus terminals. African American Freedom Riders tried to use everything that only whites could. This was an important event because it led them to be able to use more public things.
  • March of Washington

    200,000 Americans got together and marched for freedom and jobs. This march was then followed by the "I Have a Dream" speech given by Martin Luther King Jr. This was an important event because it shows that different races and ethnicity's were starting to reunite and respect each other.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a Baptist minister and founder and leader of many movements that fought for African American rights. This was important because he was a leader to many African Americans this most likely made them mad and led them to fight harder for freedom.
