    Brown -vs- Board of Education verdict is handed down
    The Supreme Court ruled in Brown's favor and stated that segregation in the public schools is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court declared that segregation violated the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution that guarantees all citizens equal protection under the laws of the US.

    Rosa Parks, a 41 year old seamstress, made a choice that would be known for the rest of history. As she came home from work in a busy bus, a white man demanded for the seat from Rosa but she refused. She was immediately arrested however her action led to other activits to be inspired to act in such a way also.

They received many threats from people telling them they don't belong in that school, however they were given escorts to help protect them if any threats were to pursue.Verbal and physical abuse still occured.

    Meredith applied to U of Miss but he was denied twice. In between the time he was denied and admitted he was advised by the civil rights leader, Medgar Evers. When Meredith was finally admitted into Ole Miss, the Mississippi govenor tried in all is power to not let Meredith be let into the university.

    MLK Jr. wrote the letter from a jail in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was staying after being arrested for being in a Birmingham campaign conducted by the SCLC against racial segregation. The letter is addressing white clergymen disputing their arguments they criticized against MLK.

    Three CORE members disappear in Mississippi
    Three civil rights field workers disappear after investigating the burning of an African American church by the KKK. Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman, both white New Yorkers, had traveled to heavily segregated Mississippi in 1964 to help organize civil rights efforts on behalf of the CORE. The third man, James Chaney, was a local African American man who had joined CORE in 1963. The disappearance of the three young men garnered national attention and led to a massive FBI investigation.

It doesn't frighten me for myself as long as I felt they would not hurt my family.” "

    March on Selma, 3 total, started in Selma and ended in Montgomery. The date of the March on Selma is also known as Bloody Sunday. SNCC and SCLC were involved in these marches. Protesters were beaten and gassed.
