Rosa Parks arrested
Rosa Parks arrested when she refused to move to the back of the bus when a white man asked her too. The NAACP then organized the bus boycott, and MLK was picked as the leader. This boycott lasted 381 days. -
Civil Rights Movement Expands
African American Students stage a sit-in at Woolworth's in North Carolina. It was modeled from the 1942 sit-in; the first sit-in ever at a Chicago lunch counter. This then caued sit-ins to spread to 48 cities in all states. -
Malcom X assassinated
Malcom X assassinated by three men. -
Watts Riots
A six day long riot, leaving thirty four people dead and $30 million in damages. This caused riots to increase in 1966. 1967 was and still is the worst year with riots. -
Stokely Carmichael arrested
Stokely Carmichael was arrested for setting up a tent at an all black high school. He shows up to the protestors rally, beaten by police; the slogan, "Black Power" is created.The arrest was legal. Stokely was arrested a total of 27 times in his lifetime. -
Martin Luther King Junior assassinated
MLK assassinated at a hotel in Texas; spinal cord was severed by the bullet and he was pronounced dead three hours after he had been shot.
