What: refused to follow instructions to sit in the back of the bus, and eventually started a boycott.

Why: It was the begining of black standing up for their rights. -
Freedom riders
Who: 13 riders, both black and white.
What: rode a bus to new orleans to get to a rally, but were servearly injured by KKK members, and other rioters
Where: from Washington D.C., to new orleans
Why: this showed that people were starting to get out of hand, and were killing people for just riding a bus. -
Children's crusade

What: protested by marching through the streets, being arrested, being released, then being arrested again.
Where: Birmingham, Alabama
Why: This was the children's way of protesting, and that got the attention of alot of people. -
Freedom march

What: Marched through washington to the washington memorial.
Where: Washington D.C.
Why: this is one of the main reasons why the rights act was passed, and this is also how thousands of people saw MLKJ's "I Have a Dream" speech. -
Bombing of 16th baptist church

What: killed by a bombing by the KKK.
Where: Birmingham, Alabama
Why: the sevierity of the bombing boosted the civil rights movement, and was influential to the civil rights act. -
Mississippi burning
Who: 3 men
What: shot at close range, crashed, and police found hundreds of bodies in lake.
Where: Philadelphia, Mississippi
Why: This showed people what was happening and how dangorus this was becoming.
