    Linda Brown was a young black girl denied her right to public education, her case and many other were brought to the Supreme Court and they decided to desegregate school. This is the first and a huge step towards equality for the black people.

    This movement was many steps taken and eventually led up to a war for racial equality. The blacks did not have the same rights as whites, they were segregated, enslaved and treated as less than human. The Civil Rights was a movement towards equality.
  • Rosa Parks Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks Bus Boycott
    Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat for a white person in the colored section of a bus. She is arrested, and this launches a boycott by the black community on buses until bus segregation is removed. The people are begin to gain support from each other to become strong to stand up for what they believe and for what is right.

    The Little Rock Nine
    Nine black students were blocked from entering Little Rock High School, but President Eisenhower send the National Guard to help the students. This shows that the black people do have support from the President.
  • Sit-ins

    Sit-ins
    A college in North Carolina opened a segregate sit-in at Woolworth's lunch counter. The blacks were denied service, but they could still be at the counter. This caused many other non-violent protest in the black community.
  • Freedom Rides

    Freedom Rides
    Black from the North took buses and public transportation to test the new laws that prohibit segregation. They were attacked by the KKK and other angry mobs and the blacks were brutally beaten. Testing the new laws were dangerous and getting beaten did gain the Civil Rights movement some public sympathy.
  • Martin Luther King is Jailed

    Martin Luther King is Jailed
    He is arrested during an anti-segregation protest in Birmingham, Ala. He wrote a letter saying that people have the moral duty to disobey unjust laws. Powerful people are supporting the black community, and they are supporting him. Everyone is working together to fight their freedom.

    March on Washington
    Philip Randolph and Martin King Luther planned a March on Washington and 200,000-300,000 people congregated in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Martin Luther gave "I Have a Dream" speech at this assembly.
  • The Civil Rights Act

    The Civil Right act was proposed by John F. Kennedy, and signed by southern President Lyndon B. Johnson. This act banned discrimination based off of racial and nullified segregation. This act is incredibly significant as it outlaws segregation, the closet they've gotten so far to equality,

    The Black Panthers are formed, a club supporting blacks.
  • Assassination of Luther King

    Assassination of Luther King
    Martin Luther King traveled to Memphis to support a sanitation workers strike. He was shot in his hotel room. The following days riots broke in more than 110 cities nationwide.
